JOHOR BARU: Johor is on track of getting 50% of its adult population fully inoculated within the next couple of days with the arrival of 1.9 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine supply this month.
Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the doses would also see 100% of the state’s adult population receiving their first dose by the end of September.
Currently, 77% of adults in Johor have received the first dose.
"The 1.9 million doses that have been promised to us for this month will help us vaccinate more people, which will enable us to move towards Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan.
"However, we are facing challenges in getting registered individuals their doses as they receive updates on their MySejahtera apps quite late," he said when met after presenting 8,000 laptops to the state Education Department here on Thursday (Sept 2).
"We are looking at various ways of handling this including having walk-ins at vaccination centres (PPV) that have a higher number of vaccines.
"The state government will also carry out more outreach vaccinations through the mobile PPV to help people get their vaccine," he said.
On Wednesday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the focus would now move away from the Klang Valley to five other states that were facing a surge in infections.
He said Sabah, Johor, Kedah, Penang and Kelantan would receive boosts in terms of vaccine supply and human resources in an effort to bring the Covid-19 numbers down.
He said the ministry would be using its experience with Operation Surge Capacity that had helped keep cases under control in the Greater Klang Valley.
Johor is set to receive 1.9 million doses, Kedah (1.3 million), Kelantan (1.2 million) and Penang (one million).
