JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional's landslide victory in the Johor polls should not be a guarantee that they will record a similar success in the 15th General Election (GE15), warns state Umno chief Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (pic).
The former Johor mentri besar added there were various factors that differentiated the two elections.
"Barisan's success in Johor election does not guarantee success in GE15, for example the increase in the cost of goods that continues to increase at this time whether it can be controlled or reduced by the end of this year.
"Besides that, the special withdrawal of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) at this time is seen as a 'feel good factor' but in the next four or five months, we are not sure.
"So that is one of the challenges that needs to be faced," he added.
Hasni, who was also the state Barisan chairman, said this after chairing the Johor Umno meeting held at its headquarters here on Saturday (April 23) night.
He added Johor Umno would prepare to face GE15 by setting up key performance indicators (KPI) to ensure that its Johor election manifesto and state Budget 2022 were adequately monitored.
"With the KPIs and specific monitoring, we are confident that we will be better prepared to face the challenges of GE15, which is expected to be held soon.
"We will also conduct a survey in each division, especially in relation to the increase in the number of voters due to the implementation of Undi18 involving several divisions including Johor Baru, Tebrau, Pulai, Iskandar Puteri and Pasir Gudang," he said.
In the Johor election, Hasni led Barisan to a landslide victory with 40 seats compared to Pakatan Harapan’s 13 seats and Perikatan Nasional had three seats.
