JOHOR BARU: Johor Opposition has called on the state government to allow them to be more involved in committees set up to look into matters related to the people.

Pakatan Harapan and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), in a joint statement, said that Opposition assemblymen should be allowed to attend action committee meetings of their respective districts and official events.

They also urged the state government to present the plans drafted by the state assembly special coordinating committee to make way for better coordination with Opposition assemblymen.

"A letter that has gone viral on social media showing that Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had appointed 16 chairmen for the state assembly special coordinating committee that consists of Barisan Nasional representatives.

"They will carry out their duties at all Opposition assemblymen constituencies starting from April 26.

"The Mentri Besar had in a media report said that the committee is being set up temporarily to ease the distribution of aid to the people in these areas and other matters.

"The distribution of aid to the people in the areas should be handled by Opposition assemblymen at their respective constituencies and not the committee. All Opposition assemblymen are capable of distributing the aid," it said in a statement here Thursday (April 28).

It added that the committee should work together with Opposition representatives instead of taking over their roles.

"In the spirit of bipartisanship, Opposition assemblymen should be invited to official events and meetings of the committee," it said.

The statement added that this was in line with Johor Pakatan's and Muda's hopes to put political differences aside and focus on serving the people.
