JOHOR BARU: Police here have opened 13 investigation papers (IPs) for various offences linked to the Johor state election.
Johor police state election media spokesman Supt Ibrahim Mat Som said the IPs were opened after receiving police reports from nomination day on Feb 26 to Monday (March 1).
"The reports involve the damaging of posters, banners and flags; removing or burning them is against the law," he said in a statement.
Supt Ibrahim also said that action can be taken against those committing the offences under Section 504 of the Penal Code and improper use of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said the offences could also be investigated under Section 24 (B)(3) of the Elections Offences Act 1954.
"We have also approved 369 permits for political ceramahs" added Supt Ibrahim.
He also reminded all political parties and their supporters to ensure that their campaign did not disrupt or obstruct public lanes and road users.
"Any parties having or facing problems in regards to the Johor state election are to refer to the police for further action," said Supt Ibrahim.
