KLUANG: Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad should be allowed to continue as Mentri Besar to avoid a backlash from voters who believed him to be a poster boy for Barisan.

Johor Umno treasurer Datuk Md Jais Sarday said that it was because of Hasni who helped Barisan bag 40 seats for this coalition in this election.

"Any talk to replace Hasni at this juncture will be a disaster for Barisan as people voted for a party led by a man with integrity and credibility.

"Johor now has a strong and stable government. What else do people want from us?" he said in an interview.

Jais, who was also Kluang division chairman, said that the party should rally behind Hasni who has helped bring about huge success for Barisan in this state election.

He stressed that Hasni already had a plan to develop the economy and bring about development in Johor.

Jais was asked to comment following speculation about the swearing in of the Johor Mentri Besar had yet to be carried out 48 hours after the Barisan's thumping victory in the state.

He added that Barisan needed to remember that those who supported the opposition in the past voted for the coalition as they did not "over promise and under deliver".

He added that Barisan would deliver on its promises.

The uncertainty had led to speculation about the choice of MB by the media.

Talk was rife that someone within the Johor palace was Covid-19 positive.

On Monday (March 14), speculation on the MB position had been rife following Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his Deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan were seen going to the Johor palace at about 3.15pm.

Barisan had previously said that former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was expected to return to power as he was touted as the coalition's poster boy and MB candidate in this election.

However, there was also talk that former state executive councillor Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was in the running for the MB position.

Barisan won a total of 40 seats followed by 16 seats from the opposition.
