Floods: Number of evacuees continues to decline in Johor

       JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has continued to decline, with 456 people from 124 families still placed at seven relief centres as of 8pm on Sunday (Jan 14).

       The Johor Disaster Management Committee said that more than half of the victims have been allowed to return home since 4pm as the flood situation had improved.

       "As of 8pm, the total number of evacuees is 136 people in Mersing, Kota Tinggi (124), Segamat (88), Kluang (85), and Batu Pahat (23).

       "Relief centres in in operation are Dewan Serbaguna Kahang in Kluang; Balairaya Kampung Batu Badak and Dewan Komuniti Kampung Tasek in Segamat; SK Sungai Telok and SK Semanggar in Kota Tinggi; SK Bukit Kuari in Batu Pahat; and SK Tenglu in Mersing," it said in a statement.

       Two rivers remain at a dangerous level, namely Sungai Muar in Kampung Tekam, Segamat, and Sungai Kahang in Kampung Contoh, Kluang.

       "There are also two dams that are still at dangerous levels, namely the Machap Dam in Kluang and the Labong Dam in Mersing," it added.
