JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped to 1,515 people at 4pm from 4,982 people at 8am on Saturday (Jan 13).

The state disaster management committee said in a statement that there are still 450 families being sheltered at 14 temporary relief centres (PPS) in five flood-affected districts in Johor.

“As of 4pm, we have closed down 20 PPS and allowed 3,467 people from 940 families to return home as the situation continues to improve.

“The PPS with the highest evacuees is at Dewan Raya Taman Kota Jaya in Kota Tinggi with 252 people and SK Air Papan with 181 people,” it said.

The district with the highest number of victims is Mersing with 611 people, followed by Kota Tinggi with 529 people, Kluang with 227 people, Segamat with 89 people, and Batu Pahat with 59 people.

“Three roads are still closed to all vehicles, namely Jalan Tanah Abang in Mersing, KM1 Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat, and KM9 Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat in Kluang.

“There are also two rivers that are still at a dangerous level, namely Sungai Kahang near Kampung Contoh in Kluang and Sungai Linggiu in Felda Linggiu, Kota Tinggi,” it added.
