JOHOR BARU: Johor police are expecting a high number of vehicles to be on the road this weekend, which coincides with Labour Day and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.State traffic police enforcement chief Supt M. Kumarasan said in terms of preparations, the police would be carrying out Ops Selamat in conjunction with the festive season between April 29 and May 8.
“Many people are expected to grab the opportunity of having such a long holiday period due to Hari Raya Aidilfitri so they will either go back to their hometown or just go for a vacation.“We expect to see a very high number of vehicles travelling either on the highways, federal roads, state roads or even city roads during that time,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Supt Kumarasan added that in terms of assignments, police would be increasing the number of personnel on the field to help smoothen traffic flow, especially on the weekends before and after the Hari Raya celebration.He advised those using the highway to plan their travel accordingly by referring to the timings proposed by PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS).
He also said it was important for travellers to check their vehicles first before leaving for their hometown or vacation.“Before travelling, ensure that your vehicle is properly serviced and maintained,” Supt Kumarasan said.
“Drivers must have adequate rest before embarking on their journey.
“Always be careful while driving and do not be selfish.
“Do not provoke and endanger yourself and other road users,” he added.
Supt Kumarasan also reminded drivers and operators of commercial vehicles to comply with the ban on driving goods vehicles in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, labelled by category, on April 30 until May 2, and May 7 until May 8.
“Strict action will be taken if anyone disobeys the instructions that have been set,” he added.
