PUTRAJAYA: I will continue to be the people's voice, whether through official channels or social media, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president, who actively shares his take on social issues on his various social media channels, said that he has used and would continue to use official channels to voice his views to the government.

“Some people may think I am only good at posting videos and updating Facebook as if I did not utilise the available channels to voice my opinions.

“This is not true as I have indeed been voicing out through the proper channels, with the hope that the Government will listen and consider constructive criticism that is good for the people and the nation,” he wrote in a Facebook post today.

To this, the Ayer Hitam MP shared screenshots of a recent written answer he had received to a question he asked the Finance Ministry in parliament.

The question was whether the ministry would consider exempting electricity from the recent Sales and Service Tax (SST) hike from 6% to 8%.

He also questioned the ministry about why the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) mechanism rate had not decreased even as fuel costs decreased globally.

Implemented in 2014, ICPT is a mechanism which allows utilities to reflect changes in fuel and other generation-related costs in the electricity tariff every six months.

Any cost reductions or increases will then be passed on to the consumers as a rebate or surcharge.
