No, we’re not backing Muhyiddin as PM, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: DAP has rubbished claims that the party is backing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to become prime minister again.

Its secretary-general Anthony Loke questioned the validity of the claim that Muhyiddin had sufficient support from Opposition MPs in Parliament to wrest Putrajaya.

“If that is the case, he would have been sworn in as prime minister, right?

“That is, of course, not true,” Loke said when contacted.

He added that DAP would not even consider supporting such a move.

“Do you think that we will give our support to Muhyiddin?” he said when asked about Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s claim that he was approached by Muhyiddin two months ago with a proposal of leading the coalition after securing support from Pakatan Harapan.

On Monday, Shafie said the Pagoh MP claimed he had the backing of 119 MPs out of the current 220 MPs, following negotiations with Loke and Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Shafie said this during a gathering in Libaran, telling the crowd that Warisan had given Muhyiddin the snub.

In February 2020, Muhyiddin was appointed as prime minister following the Sheraton Move that had led to the collapse of the 22-month-old Pakatan government.

The move saw Bersatu and a faction led by PKR’s then deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali joining forces with PAS and Barisan Nasional to oust Pakatan from Putrajaya.
