Tokyo registers 30 COVID cases on Nov. 9

       TOKYO -- Japan's capital registered 30 coronavirus infections on Nov. 9, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced, after reporting 18 cases the previous day.

       In the first week of November, Tokyo saw a daily average of 20.14 infections. The capital registered 2,176 total COVID-19 cases in October for an average of 70.2 cases per day, a steep drop from September's 31,842 total cases (an average of 1,061.4 per day) and the 125,606 infections (an average of 4,051.8 per day) tallied in August.

       By Nov. 8, 3,156 people had died of COVID-19 in Tokyo since the pandemic began in Japan in the spring of 2020.

       Tokyo has recorded 381,844 infections to date, the most among Japan's 47 prefectures. As of Nov. 8, there were 111 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Tokyo, 10 with severe symptoms.
