SHAH ALAM: Some 1.33 tonnes of ganja worth RM3.33mil were seized following raids in Subang Jaya, Rawang and Semenyih, says Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
The Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director said four men aged 23 to 46 were detained during the raids conducted between 4.40pm and 11pm on March 24.
“One of the suspects is a businessman, another a dispatch rider while two others are jobless.
“We believe the syndicate got its ganja supply from the golden triangle through Thailand,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.
Those detained have been remanded until March 31, he added.
“We also seized four vehicles and cash amounting to RM331,900,” he said.
The smuggled drugs were meant for the Selangor and Johor markets, Comm Ayob said, adding there was enough to supply 2.5 million addicts.
“The drugs were smuggled via a land route and secret passages in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia,” he said.
Comm Ayob said there has been an increase in ganja smuggled from overseas lately, and further investigations will be conducted to detain the rest of the syndicate.
“We expect to get the full scope of the syndicate within a week,” he added.
Comm Ayob said the police appreciate the cooperation of the public in relaying information on drug related crimes and urged those with information to contact the NCID hotline at 012-2087222.
On a separate matter involving nine enforcement agency employees and a fisherman detained for drug trafficking earlier this month, Comm Ayob said one person from the agency and the fisherman have been charged in court.
“Eight other enforcement personnel have been detained under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act Special Preventive Measures.
“We will complete the case file and submit it to the Home Ministry and the ministry’s inquiry officer will review our investigation. We will wait for the ministry’s decision,” he said.
