M6 traffic nightmare: Horror queues as drivers stuck on busy route after crash - updates

       They said: “We are currently dealing with a collision on the M6 between Junctions 15 and 14 in the Staffordshire PolIce area despite lanes clearly being closed drivers continue to contravene the signal hindering the emergency response.

       “Offenders are being recorded and paperwork to follow.”

       A picture posted by officers shows two lanes closed on the motorway, with cars queuing to the left.

       A 40mph speed limit was also enforced, with drivers pushed to the left two lanes as emergency services attended to the crash.

       Earlier on Thursday, drivers battled 60 minute delays on the M6 after two lanes closed on the Thelwall Viaduct southbound entry slip road.

       At around 1:53pm, National Highways North West said: “There are currently delays of 52 minutes above normal journey times and eight miles of congestion due to emergency works on the M6 southbound within J21 Warrington.

       “Work is almost complete and the lane closures are expected to be removed shortly.”

       The emergency works were finished at around 2:40pm, but eight mile queues remained.

       Other motorways also experienced issues throughout Thursday, as Christmas drivers clogged the roads.

       At 2:52pm, Inrix said there were delays on the M42, adding: “Stop-start traffic for eight miles on M42 Northbound between J3A (M40 Interchange) and J6 A45 Coventry Road (Birmingham Airport / Coventry). Travel time is 25 minutes.”

       Southbound also saw heavy traffic, with Inrix saying: “Stop-start traffic for seven miles on M42 Southbound between J9 A4097 Kingsbury Road (Curdworth / Coleshill) and J6 A45 Coventry Road (Birmingham Airport / Coventry). Travel time is 20 minutes.”
