PETALING JAYA: Former chief justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum (pic) has been appointed as an ombudsman of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
A statement by the Office of UN Ombudsman and Mediation Services said the appointment came into effect Monday (Feb 28).
Malanjum served as chief justice of Malaysia from 2018 to 2019 after being the chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak High Court.
Prior to his ombudsman appointment, Malanjum served as adjunct professor in several universities in Malaysia and was a legal consultant and arbitrator as well as a trained mediator.
Between 1992 and 2006 he held various judicial positions including judicial commissioner, deputy public prosecutor and state counsel.
The statement also announced the appointment of legal officer Natacha Wexels-Riser and research assistant Laura Bianchi.
