A Joliet man who kept police at bay for nearly six hours Wednesday following a domestic disturbance was charged Friday with the death of his uncle, whom family members reported missing during the standoff.

Anthony Harames, 31, was already being held on a domestic battery charge Friday when police charged him with murder, concealing a homicidal death and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

He was being held on $5 million bail, facing the murder charge and was due in court Monday.

Harames made statements to police regarding his uncle’s killing and told investigators that after he killed his uncle, he disposed of his body at a Joliet cemetery, Joliet police said in a statement.

Police were able to recover the victim’s remains and a knife, which police said was used in the slaying.

Police at this time are not releasing the name of the victim.

The uncle’s family told investigators the last time the 53-year-old man, who owned the home Harames was staying in, was seen was in early November, Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.

Family members told police the uncle had an RV and routinely traveled.

Questions about the man’s whereabouts arose when police spoke to family members during the standoff, English said.

Neighbors on Wednesday also told police they found it odd that Harames was staying in the home his uncle owned, when the two men were not known to get along, English said.

Police were called to the home, located in the 900 block of Natoma Court, on Wednesday for a domestic disturbance.

A woman at the scene told police she had been battered by her ex-boyfriend, who she identified as Harames.

Harames was taken into custody Wednesday following the standoff. Once Harames was in custody, he admitted to killing his uncle several weeks prior and then loading the body into his uncle’s trunk and disposing of it at the Woodlawn Cemetery, English said.

According to police, the uncle had been stabbed numerous times.

“According to family there had always been a beef between the two and it seemed like they got into an argument and it got out of hand,” English said.

Joliet’s interim police chief, Robert Brown, extended his condolences to the family.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim,” Brown said in a news release.
