D.C. police have identified the man found fatally shot Sunday night in McPherson Square near the White House in downtown Washington.
Leo Colter, who police said has no fixed address, was found shortly before 10 p.m. on a park bench by officers who responded to a call for the sound of gunshots, authorities said.

Efforts to reach Colter’s relatives were not successful.
A police report said officers initially suspected Colter had suffered a drug overdose and administered Narcan, a nasal spray that reverses opioid overdoses. The report says Colter was later pronounced dead.
A forensic investigator from the medical examiner’s office at the scene found a gunshot wound on Colter’s body, the police report says.
The 1.6-acre park, named after a Union Army general, is between 14th and 15th streets NW, bordered by K and I streets.
U.S. Park Police have primary jurisdiction over the federal park, but D.C. police assume control over all death and homicide investigations.
No arrest has been made.
