The hot air balloon hit The Nags Head pub in Sutton-in-Ashfield after coming crashing down next to the Idlewells Shopping Centre. British Transport Police officers saw the incident unfold in the town centre.

       Officers rushed to help get the balloon under control.

       They also assisted with first aid for passengers.

       Nobody was seriously injured in the incident, officers said.

       British Transport Police shared a picture of the crashed hot air balloon on their Nottinghamshire Twitter account.

       The snap shows the crumpled green and white balloon in the middle of the road surrounded by cars and buildings.

       Officers said: "Now this isn't something that happens very often.

       "Whilst on patrol officers have witnessed a hot air balloon crashing in Sutton in Ashfield town centre.

       "Officers have assisted with first aid, before helping get the balloon under control. #unexpected."

       The tweet prompted a string of comments and more than 100 likes.

       In response to another Twitter user querying whether those involved were ok, officers added: "Possible broken nose.

       Another Twitter user joked: "So BTP really do cover all forms of transport…."

       One more added: "Not just trains."

       And the British Transport Police Lancashire Twitter account retweeted the post with a face screaming in fear emoji.
