KUALA LUMPUR: There are a total of 128 women prisoners facing the death sentence as of Oct 1, says the Home Ministry.
In a written reply in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 27), the ministry said data from the Prisons Department showed that of the 128 condemned prisoners, 26 were Malaysians and the remaining 102 were foreigners.
It said the statistics also showed that 113 of the death sentences were related to drug trafficking.
"For Section 302 under the Penal Code for murder, 15 female prisoners were convicted," it added in responding to Maria Chin Abdullah (PH-Petaling Jaya).
The MP had asked how many women prisoners there were as of October this year and what offences they had committed.
