KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested a 30-year-old motorist for driving his car on the motorcycle lane along the Federal Highway.

       City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said police detected a video of the incident which was uploaded on Facebook at around 2.41pm on Friday (March 18).

       "The video was uploaded by Facebook user Mazli Alias on the DashCam Owners Malaysia Facebook page," he said

       "Our investigations showed that the incident occurred in the motorcycle lane of the Federal Highway near Wisma CIMB, Jalan Pantai Baharu," added ACP Sarifudin in a statement on Saturday (March 19).

       ACP Sarifudin said that the driver was tracked down and subsequently arrested at around 6pm on Friday when he was asked to come to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station.

       "We have classified the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving recklessly and dangerously," he said.

       The one minute and 11 second video was believed to be taken by a motorcyclist as he was riding in the motorcycle lane.

       About 15 seconds into the video, a white car is seen turning into the motorcycle lane and driving along the lane.

       The video ends as the two vehicles approach a tunnel near the Midvalley Megamall shopping complex.
