JOHOR BARU: Some 11,000 policemen are expected to be mobilised for the upcoming state election, says Johor police chief Datuk Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

       Comm Kamarul said that this would include police officers and personnel from Johor as well as Bukit Aman.

       “We are prepared to ensure that the election will proceed smoothly and people can vote peacefully,” he said.

       He added that the police had a preliminary plan in place that would be refined further once more details, such as the standard operating procedure (SOP), is announced.

       Comm Kamarul said that the police would also set up a special committee to monitor information being spread on social media.

       “The committee will involve people from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Special Branch and the information technology department.

       “We will also rope in officers and personnel who are digital savvy,” he said during a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Wednesday (Jan 26).
