PETALING JAYA: Nearly RM4mil in drugs were seized in two different narcotics operations, crippling two drug distribution syndicates.

       The first operation was launched on Aug 6 and the second on Aug 8, said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed.

       The first operation saw seven people arrested in Batu Caves and within Gombak and Selayang.

       “During the arrest of two suspects in a housing area in Batu Caves, police recovered 97 packages that contained around 100.74kg of suspected methamphetamine.

       “Out of the seven suspects arrested, five had prior police records and three tested positive for drugs,” he told an online press conference yesterday.

       The suspects were aged between 26 and 48.

       In the second operation, narcotics police arrested 10 suspects following raids in Ampang and Penang.“Around 7.35kg of suspected methamphetamine was seized during a raid at a carpark in Ampang. A total of 10 people aged between 27 and 65 were caught.

       “Seven cars with a cumulative value of RM495,000 were seized. We also seized around RM346,180 from frozen accounts,” Comm Arjunaidi said.

       Seven of the suspects were found to have prior police records.

       Comm Arjunaidi said the two groups had no links to each other.

       Both groups were known to have been active for around six months to a year.

       All suspects from both operations were remanded for seven days.

       Regarding the arrest of a police station chief and three other policemen for holding a “private party” at a room in a police station in Kajang, Comm Arjunaidi said the investigation papers had been sent to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action.

       “Between 2017 and 2020, we have suspended 59 policemen and fired 16 others.

       “We take action on all types of misconduct, be it drug use or otherwise.

       “We will not compromise on this,” he added.
