PETALING JAYA: Workers from the agro-commodity sector will be receiving their Covid-19 jabs under the industrial vaccine dispensing centre programme.
Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali welcomed the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force’s (CITF) decision to approve the agro-commodity sector for vaccination targeting industries.
“Two industrial vaccine dispensing centres are expected to operate by end of this month at the very latest, for the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP), which will focus on oil palm plantations.
“These are the Tennameram plantation in Bestari Jaya, Selangor and also the Fibre and Biocomposite Centre (FIDEC) in Olak Lempit, Banting, Selangor,” he said in a statement Friday (July 2).
He added that the ministry appreciated the direct involvement of the Malaysian Palm Oil Association as well as Sime Darby Plantation Berhad in arranging the operations of the industrial vaccine dispensing centre at Tennameram plantation, which will target 6,400 workers.
He also thanked the Malaysian Timber Council and the Malaysian Timber Industry Board for the operations of the industrial vaccine dispensing centre in FIDEC at Olak Lempit, which will target 7,800 workers.
“The ministry hopes that more industrial vaccine dispensing centres from the agro-commodity sector can be opened up by the industry players and associations, to help the NIP achieve success in the targeted time frame.
“At the same time, opening up further industrial vaccine dispensing centre is subject to the consideration and approval of the CITF,” he said.
