IPOH: A total of 36,238 out of the 37,590 primary and secondary school teachers in Perak have received their Covid-19 vaccination, says state education committee chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud (pic).

He said that the remaining 1,352 teachers have yet to be vaccinated, have not registered under the immunisation programme, or are still waiting for their vaccination appointments.

He said in his winding-up speech at the state assembly sitting here on Monday (Aug 30) that 9,426 of the 9,684 teachers in the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), Vocational, Form Five and Form Six groups have been vaccinated.

Ahmad Saidi said the remaining 258 teachers have yet to be vaccinated, have not registered under the immunisation programme, and some are still waiting to receive their appointments.

“The state government through the state Education Department will continue to double its efforts in ensuring that teachers will be vaccinated as soon as possible,” he said.

If there is a need for counselling programmes, webinars, management workshops or talks on the importance of vaccination, we will carry out such events,” added Ahmad Saidi.

Ahmad Saidi said the state government was also aware of parents' concerns on the opening of schools for face-to-face classes on Oct 3.

“However, the state government has also taken the stand that if the risk assessment by the Health Ministry and the National Safety Council states that the schools are not ready to operate, we will follow suit,” he said.

“It will be good for the assessment to be set as a benchmark to delay the opening of schools if the number of Covid-19 cases is still high,” added Ahmad Saidi.
