KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded a statement from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in connection with Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’s book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.

The Pandan MP and former deputy prime minister spent about an hour with investigators, who quizzed her on the contents of Thomas’ book.

She arrived in Bukit Aman at about 3.25pm and left at about 4.25pm yesterday.

Dr Wan Azizah said she gave her full cooperation to the police.

“I was asked questions related to some of the contents of the book,” she told reporters outside Bukit Aman.

Her lawyer William Leong said the investigation was centred on the contents of the book.

Supporters and several PKR lawmakers were also present to lend support, including her daughter and Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah, and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

Earlier, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan confirmed that Dr Wan Azizah was called up to have her statement recorded in connection with the book.

On Dec 24 last year, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said a task force would conduct a preliminary study on allegations in Thomas’ book.

This would include the appointment of judges, excessive interference by the executive in the judiciary, and selective prosecution.

The task force will submit its findings and recommendations to the Cabinet within six months from the date of appointment.

Thomas, in a letter to the chairman of the task force, said he had no intention of cooperating, citing the formation of the task force as unprecedented and potentially jeopardising the independence of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
