PETALING JAYA: The standard operating procedure (SOP) for Chinese New Year will be unveiled tomorrow, says Datuk Halimah Mohamed Saddique.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) urged the public to be mindful of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
It recommended avoiding large gatherings, wearing a face mask during the yee sang tossing and always keeping a safe physical distance from one another.
Other medical associations and community leaders have also warned to put the SOP first.
“This is to help avoid a surge in Covid-19 cases after the celebration,” they said.
“As such, people should take every precaution to protect themselves and loved ones.”
In a Twitter post on Jan 9, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that Malaysia could not afford another lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.
He said the government was employing a mitigation strategy.
