A woman died Tuesday morning after being shot at by Dolton police and crashing her car into a business, according to a village spokesman.
Police responded at about 1 a.m. to Baba’s Famous Steak & Lemonade restaurant, 685 Sibley Blvd., for a report of an armed woman in the drive-through lane.
When police arrived they told her and a man who was in the car to get out. The man complied but the woman instead tried to drive away, said village spokesman Sean Howard.
An officer reached into the vehicle to try to remove her from the vehicle and the woman drove off, dragging the officer with her, Howard said. Her vehicle hit another officer, who was able to fire at the vehicle, striking the woman three times, he said.
The woman’s vehicle hit a Dolton squad car and traveled about 1,500 feet before crashing into the front of Compleat Cyclist, 703 Sibley, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, Howard said.

The two officers were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Howard said the officer hit by the woman’s vehicle was expected to be released from the hospital, while the officer who was dragged “suffered multiple serious injuries,” although they were not believed to be life-threatening.
“Obviously she used the vehicle as a weapon,” Howard said. “We are just grateful our officers are both alive.”
The woman has not yet been identified although she was not a Dolton resident and neither was the man who was with her, Howard said.
The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating because of the officer-involved shooting, and body camera images and other video have been turned over to state police, he said.
The woman was apparently irate that she could not order food at the restaurant, Howard said. On a 911 call by one of the employees, dispatchers were told the woman had a gun, but it was not clear whether she threatened employees with it. The restaurant was closed at the time, Howard said.
