KOTA KINABALU: The daily Covid-19 infection rate continues to show a downward trend, with Sabah recording 1,235 new cases on Monday (March 7).

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that there was an overall decrease of 280 from Sunday's (March 6) total of 1515 cases.

He said a total of 21 districts recorded a decrease in the number of cases, with five showing a significant decrease - Kota Kinabalu (-127 cases), Keningau (-32), Kota Marudu (-31), Kota Belud (-22) and Tawau (-22).

However, he said districts continued to record a higher number of new cases than before, and this included Papar which recorded 141 new cases.

Papar is also the second highest contributor of cases after Kota Kinabalu and 72.3% of the cases are through sporadic infections.

He said the percentage of symptomatic cases due to sporadic infections remained high, at 65.02% of all new cases in Sabah.

"This situation can be seen clearly when 22 out of 27 districts in Sabah recorded symptomatic cases as the highest category of new cases in those districts," he said.

Sporadic infections are easy to occur and spread quickly, he said while reminding the public to seriously comply with all SOPs to curb the spread of the virus in the community.

A total of 1,221, or 98.87% of the 1,235 new cases today were in Category 1 and 2, five cases in Category 3, five cases in Category 4 and four cases in Category 5.
