Princess Charlene, 43, finally returned to her family on November 8 after spending several months in South Africa due to a serious ear, nose, and throat infection. However, shortly after her return, Prince Albert revealed to a local newspaper the Monegasque Princess left the principality to seek further medical care after suffering with “profound exhaustion, both emotional and physical”.

       Charlene continues to suffer from deep fatigue and will need time to recover away from the public eye, the palace announced prior to the celebration.

       Prince Albert told People magazine that Charlene was receiving treatment in a facility outside of Monaco to protect her privacy.

       Charlene’s prolonged illness has faced an onslaught of rumours surrounding her and Albert’s marriage.

       However, this is not the first time the Monegasque royals have come under fire.

       The couple wed in 2011 in a grand three-day wedding, which is estimated to have cost ￡53 million, but prior to the nuptials reports claimed Charlene attempted to flee three times.

       Reports claimed the former Olympic swimmer attempted to leave Monaco three times before she tied the knot with Albert in July, but was unsuccessful.

       Allegedly her third escape attempt took place just two days before the lavish wedding.

       After the couple wed the pair jetted off to South Africa where they spent their honeymoon, but reports revealed they stayed in separate resorts.

       The Princess reportedly stayed at Umhlanga Rocks, a luxury beach resort, while her new husband stayed 10 miles away at the Hilton Hotel in Durban.

       The Daily Mail’s Peter Allen told ABC News at the time: “The explanation is that he wanted to avoid the traffic in the morning to get to early meetings.

       “So he stayed there, leaving poor old Charlene 10 miles up the coast at a seaside hotel.”

       Aware of the rumours surrounding his marriage, Albert addressed the questions which have arisen surrounding Charlene's mysterious long-term illness: ”Because I know there are rumours out there, let me say - this is not Covid.

       ”It's not cancer-related.

       “It's not a personal relationship issue.

       “And if you want to discuss another speculation, it isn't related to plastic surgery or facial work at all.”
