KUALA LUMPUR: Education and well-being streams will now be included under the GLC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (GDRN) initiative, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Formerly known as the government-linked companies (GLC) and government-linked investment companies (GLIC) Disaster Recovery Network, the Prime Minister said inclusion of the new scopes would see GDRN carrying out its corporate social responsibilities in a consolidated and organised manner.

“The education stream encompasses scholarships, education opportunities and access to education alongside the development of soft skills.

“As for the wellbeing stream, it prioritises improving quality of life through different aspects of generating income, developing both vocational and financial skills alongside ensuring a healthy wellbeing,” he said when launching the GLC Open Day 2022 yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said the latest initiative would allow both GLC and GLIC to optimise their resources towards ensuring better benefits for both the B40 and targeted groups.

“In the long run, we will bear the fruits of this effort through a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable economy that benefits the whole of Keluarga Malaysia,” he said.

Also present were Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

GDRN was first introduced in 2013 through the Putrajaya Committee for GLC High Performance with Khazanah Nasional as its secretariat.

The network was successfully deployed between 2013 and 2016 in various relief and reconstruction work where contributions by GLC and GLIC were coordinated and deployed.

Its most recent initiative was streamlining both GLC and GLIC efforts to assist the National Disaster Management Agency and the Welfare Department for the flood crisis last December.

The GLC open day themed ‘Aspirasi Masyarakat Inspirasi Negara’ was centred on five main focuses namely the Rakyat, Business, Economy, Public Health and Bumiputera Agenda.

The open day, scheduled from March 11 to 13 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, will involve six GLIC: Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Permodalan Nasional Bhd, Employees Provident Fund, Retirement Fund (Incorporated), Lembaga Tabung Haji and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera together with Petronas and more than 20 GLC.
