KUCHING: Helming the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is not an easy task but Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is committed to doing his best.
The Kapit MP, who was retained as Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Minister in the new Cabinet, said he would continue the ministry's initiatives to protect the interests of consumers and businesses in the country.
"When I left the ministry following the resignation of the eighth prime minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin), we had already drawn up plans to assist consumers and the business community.
"With my reappointment, I am committed to continuing those plans, which are largely focused on efforts towards economic recovery," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 27).
Nanta extended his thanks to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for appointing him to the Cabinet, as well as to Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for nominating him to serve in the federal administration.
He also thanked industry players for their words of encouragement in the past week, adding that they expressed hopes for the ministry's plans to keep going and improve.
In addition, Nanta urged everyone to stop politicking and to give a chance to the Prime Minister to steer the nation out of the health and economic crises.
"Efforts to fight Covid-19 and help the nation's economy recover require everyone's cooperation.
"This is the time for us to focus on working together for the nation's sake," he said.
