KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) has named Datuk Seri Johny Ch'ng Ewe Gee as one of the three vice chairmen of the non-governmental organisation.
His appointment was announced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin during the MCPF national exco meeting on Friday (April 22).
Ch'ng will take over from former senior vice chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, who has decided not to continue after his many years of service and immense contributions to the organisation.
The two other vice chairmen are retired senior police officer Datuk Seri Ayub Yaakob and Politeknik Nilai deputy director (research and industry network) Dr Isdawati Ismail.
MCPF's patron is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob while Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is the deputy chairman.
When contacted, Lee congratulated Ch'ng on his appointment.
"I am confident he can fit in and discharge his responsibilities based on his years and vast experience in the MCPF.
"He also has good international networking with international police associations in countries such as the United States, Macau, Hong Kong and China.
"I hope all parties will give him full support to lead MCPF to greater heights in crime prevention efforts," he said.
Ch'ng said he would do his best to help the authorities in fighting crime and increasing public awareness especially with rising cases of white-collar crimes such as Macau scams and other cheating cases.
"I take this opportunity to thank the minister for his faith and confidence in appointing me to fill the shoes of Tan Sri Lee.
"Together with all exco members, we will do our best to create safer neighbourhoods and foster closer rapport among the people," he said.
Ch'ng is currently the Bukit Aman Police Volunteer Reserve chief coordinating officer.
He has also been the Pahang MCPF chairman and MCPF Safe City Initiative Committee chairman.
The MCPF 28th annual general meeting (AGM) is scheduled to be held on Saturday (April 23) at 5pm in Kuala Lumpur Royal Malaysia Police College, Cheras.
Hamzah, the national MCPF chairman, would be chairing the meeting.
