An Australian woman was angrily confronted by a Japanese man for ignoring the smoking rules while holidaying at a ski resort.

       Video footage circulating on social media on Tuesday shows the woman standing on the slopes with a cigarette in one hand and a can of beer in the other before the Japanese man walks over to her and says, “Don’t smoke; it’s not polite.”

       The woman was quick to respond saying “oh, sorry”, yet that seemingly fanned the flames further with the man not accepting her apology.

       He then questioned her, shouting back, “Sorry?” before the woman explained that she was unaware she was not in a smoking area.

       “I beg your pardon, I did not know,” she snapped back.

       The man began to get closer to the woman as the situation intensified, prompting the male standing with her to step in to her defence.

       He asked the man not to yell at her, reiterating that she didn’t know she was unable to smoke where they were.

       “Didn’t know?” the Japanese man said in amazement, to which the other man said “no, it's her first time”.

       The Aussie woman involved then turned around and stormed off, muttering: “F*****g crazy, man.”

       Walking back over to the woman, the persistent man said: “What, what?”

       Stepping in again to her defence, her male Aussie companion stated: “You're going to touch her, I'll knock you out. You don't talk to women like that.”

       However, the Japanese man continued in his moment of rage, explaining the etiquette of the ski resort. He said: “Look…you don't smoke, a***hole.”

       The clash, caught on camera, was posted online, with many users backing the actions of the Japanese man.

       One person posted: “As an Australian who's lived in Japan for years, the locals get pretty sick of our s**t when we break rules and act rudely”.

       “I'm 99 per cent sure this is the Oakley lookout at the Happo One Resort in Hakuba,” another added. “If so, there are clear signs that smoking is only allowed for 'heated tobacco' and that's in the smoking rooms. It's well known that smoking in public is not allowed in Japan.”

       A third argued although “he was way too aggressive in his approach”, the woman is “in the wrong for smoking”.
