KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department is still investigating the cause of the explosion at the evidence storage facility in Sentul on Tuesday (April 26).
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the department's forensics team was involved.
"The Bomba forensic unit must investigate as there was a disposal of fireworks before the explosion occurred.
"We received a call from the public on the incident at 6.42pm (Tuesday).
"The police along with Bomba and other agencies rushed to the scene to put out the fire," he said.
ACP Beh said the fire was extinguished at about 7.04pm.
"Three civilian workers helping with the disposal of the fireworks suffered minor injuries. They were sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
"Fire police officers stationed at the storage facility and two other civilian workers did not suffer any injury," he said on Wednesday (April 27).
Initial investigations found that 18 cars and two lorries were burnt during the fire,he said.
"They were items of evidence registered at the storage area.
"We still have not ascertained the amount of losses," he said.
