MELAKA: Eight individuals have been arrested in a sedition probe for targeting the visit of Melaka Yang di-Pertua Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam to a “village gymnasium” in Kesang Tua at Jasin here.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said the individuals are all locals who are aged between 21 and 45.
They are being investigated for sedition over comments on social media regarding the July 28 visit by Dr Mohd Ali to the house where Philippine Olympic gold medallist Hidilyn Diaz trained.
DCP Abdul Majid said the individuals were summoned to have their statements recorded between July 30 and Aug 11.
He said all eight were released on police bail and four of them are expected to be charged under the Sedition Act as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“The four are aged between 28 to 45,” he said on Monday (Aug 16).
