MELAKA: Former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee says he will only accept political parties championing for all Malaysians in his bid to make a comeback in politics.
Norhizam who contested and lost in the Melaka elections last Nov 20 said he will never join any political parties that are only keen to defend a particular ethnic.
"I prefer to focus on other things rather than joining political parties that focus on helping only one race despite living in a multiracial nation,” he said in response to media reports on Thursday (April 14) that DAP and Umno have poured cold water on his intention to contest in the upcoming general election.
Norhizam who is popularly known as" YB Hulk" said DAP was never in his list when he decided to make a comeback.
"I don't know who spread this rumour as I am not keen and will never join DAP in my lifetime or even apply to join Umno," he said in an interview on Thursday (April 14).
Norhizam said political parties with race-based policies would be gradually rejected by the younger voters.
"I was in DAP and I know their mindset when it comes to championing issues, especially involving the Malays.
"I also want to tell DAP leaders that I didn't hop party but resigned when I lost hope on how the party was managed," he said.
Norhizam said he will remain steadfast in his decision not to join DAP and regret joining the party in the first place.
"I challenge DAP leaders to contest in Malay-majority constituencies if they think all Malaysians like them.”
Norhizam said he had also resigned from Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali's administration on Oct 4, 2021 when the then state government was not able to function effectively with alleged internal problem.
"Umno is definitely not my choice if I decided to contest in a parliamentary constituency," he added.
Norhizam earned the moniker "YB Hulk” after a video clip of him emerged in 2018, showing him in a heated exchange with villagers in Bukit Beruang.
