A WOMAN has been arrested in connection to a vile attack where a Yorkshire terrier was "stabbed to death".

       The sickening act is reported to have happened at an address in Hull.

       Police confirmed that they are aware of the incident in the Orchard Park estate and have passed it on to the RSCPA.

       The charity confirmed have launched an investigation describing the crime as "distressing."

       A spokeswoman told HullLive: “We are now looking into this, however, we cannot discuss incidents about specific people and what action may have been taken.

       "We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future prosecution or could lead to us being fined.

       “We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.”

       Police have not confirmed whether there has been a prosecution yet.

       Last year, tougher prison sentences were brought which saw the maximum prison sentence for animal cruelty raised from six months to five years for the most serious cases.

       It comes as a police dog was stabbed five times in the head as he chased and tackled a knifeman who broke a cop's wrist.

       Hero Alsation Kaiser was "lucky to be alive" after he was repeatedly knifed by an intruder.

       As the hero pup tried to pin down the intruder, he was brutally stabbed five times on the top of his head with a knife knife, and once below his eye.

       And a Rottweiler was stabbed three times and had his neck slashed while another was beaten so badly she couldn’t walk on her front legs.

       The two pets were targeted at the same stables in “sickening” attacks which left them fighting for their lives.
