But chef mum Chelsie Syme, 27 and plasterer dad Myles Dark, 30, were astonished by what she produced and illustrated.

Now her tale — The Lost Cat — is available on Amazon and through Waterstone’s for £4 after being officially published by Ginger Fyre Press.

Bella-Jay’s story features a moggy that goes on adventures but realises she should not go out without her mum.

Chelsie, of Weymouth, Dorset, said: “We went to a book fair and someone there said they wanted to publish it.

“We’re so proud of her. I did not think it would go this far.”

Last year Abhijita Gupta, from Ghaziabad, India, was recognised as the world's youngest published author, at seven.

To claim the Guinness World Record, Bella-Jay must sell 1,000 copies.

She insisted: “This is the best book ever.”
