Brexit Britain has been given a massive boost after the world’s largest wind farm costing £8bn was given the green light.
The new wind farm, known as Hornsea 3, will be constructed off the coast of Norfolk and helps boost the government’s net zero plans as the UK tries to reduce its emissions.
The farm will be built by Danish renewable energy company ?rsted who will install 231 offshore turbines. These will generate power for three million British homes.
There had been fears that the project wouldn’t happen after ?rsted made the decision not to build off the coast of the USA and the impact of inflation began to hit the industry.

However, the project has been saved and allows the UK to lead the way in the drive to power homes using renewable sources of electricity.

The Telegraph reported that a spokesperson for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said: “We will continue to drive forward our ambition of up to 50GW offshore wind by 2030 while recognising the global impact of rises in inflation and interest rates.
“We are committed to a successful next auction round that includes offshore wind.”
The news of the continuation of Hornsea 3 comes ahead of the Government announcing the next allocation of renewable energy subsidies.
Subsidies for Hornsea 3 were agreed between ?rsted and the Government last year and they are believed to be in talks with Net Zero Secretary Claire Coutinho about more favourable subsidies.

The reason for these negotiations is that the wind industry has been hit hard by rising inflation that has ?rsted at risk of suffering disastrous financial losses.
A spokesperson for the company said there was “ongoing dialogue” between them and the Government.
Speaking about the project with This Is Money, ?rsted’s chief executive Mads Nipper said: “Offshore wind is an extremely competitive global market, so we also welcome the attractive policy regime in the UK which has helped secure this investment.”
“By applying our world-leading capabilities within offshore wind innovation, engineering, operations, procurement, and financing, we’ve been able to mature the world’s largest offshore wind project and take a final investment decision.”

As recently as October a wind farm off the coast of Yorkshire had begun powering UK homes. The project, developed by Norway’s Equinor and V?rgr?nn alongside SSE and installed on Dogger Bank, will be completed as early as 2026.
Speaking about the benefits of wind power, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “Offshore wind is critical to generating renewable, efficient energy that can power British homes from British seas.
“I’m proud that this country is already a world leader in reaching Net Zero by 2050, and by doubling down on the new green industries of the future, we’ll get there in a way that’s both pragmatic and ambitious."
