An area in Norwich city centre has been cordoned off after workmen discovered suspected human bones.

       The discovery was made on Monday evening at 8:59 pm near St Andrew’s Church, close to Bridewell Alley, where workers were digging to lay fibre optic cables. The police were alerted immediately and a cordon was established as investigators examined the scene.

       The bones, which are believed to be human, will undergo forensic analysis to determine their age.

       According to a spokesperson for Norfolk Police, the testing process could take several weeks.

       The Norfolk Archaeological Society may also be called in to conduct further investigations into the site.

       Indi Williams, the Student Union president of Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), was passing by when she saw police photographing the discovery.

       Speaking to ITV News Anglia, she said: "I saw this happening, and got a bit curious so I started taking some photos. Then I came over and had a look. It’s crazy, just the amount of bones in the ground, it’s crazy."

       Abi Harverson, another student at NUA, shared her reaction to the scene.

       She said: "I’ve never seen a forensic team doing their work in real time, only ever on the TV.

       “I love all the history of Norwich; this is the reason I am here."
