Rishi Sunak declines to apologise over transgender jibe
Rishi Sunak has enjoyed a boost in the polls which could be the first sign of hope for a turnaround for the dispirited Tories.
The Conservatives cut Labour's lead by two points from last week but still face a vast 20-point deficit and the prospect of the worst election defeat in their 346-year history.
But 24 hours of chaos for Sir Keir Starmer which involved him ditching his biggest economic policy of £28 billion a year to fund his green plan, and another U-turn on abolishing the Lords, appears to have begun to turn things around for the Tories.
The Techne UK tracker poll for Express.co.uk put the Conservatives up one to 24 percent and Labour down one to 44 percent.
Concerningly for the Conservatives, Reform UK are still on 10 percent with the Lib Dems on the same figure, while the Greens languish behind on six points.

The poll was taken over two days this week with the final data collected as Labour descended into chaos as Sir Keir Starmer admitted defeat on his much vaunted £28 billion green plan which proved to be unaffordable.
The humiliation for Sir Keir Starmer has hit him in the polls but not enough to dent his prospects of a record victory.
According to Electoral Calculus the Conservatives would be reduced to 119 seats while Labour would enjoy a majority of 268.
Techne UK chief executive Michela Morizzo said: "This week has like most weeks in recent months been another very difficult one for the Prime Minister.
"Rishi Sunak and his Conservative Government are being battered on cost of living pressures for all hard working families. The ongoing international conflicts do not help the general mood of the population either. Our tracker poll this week brings a little bit of positive news for Sunak with a 2 point swing in favour of the Conservatives - the Labour lead dropping to a still sizeable 20 points.
"The outlook still looks very uncertain and the coming weeks will be key depending on the main issues that will be addressed."

Despite the small bounce there is plenty to worry the Conservatives with speculation still rife about a possible attempt to oust Sunak.

Just 45 percent of those who voted Conservative in 2019 would still vote for them now with one in five on strike, staying at home or uncertain.
A combined three in 10 voters have defected to Reform (16 percent) and Labour (14 percent), with both partties causing the Conservatives problems in two by-elections in Kingswood and Wellingborough next week.
Meanwhile, Labour leads the Tories in every age, social, education and wealth category.
