       Jozef Puska is a Slovakian national who lives in the Irish town of Tullamore, Co Offaly.

       The 31-year-old, of Lynally Grove, is understood to earn €200 (￡166) a week in disability benefit.

       Puska was charged with the murder of Irish teacher Ashling Murphy on January 19, 2022.

       He was heckled as he was taken from a police car to a special evening sitting at Tullamore District Court the same day.

       The court heard the accused was charged with murder at 7.42pm, to which Puska replied: "No."

       District Judge Catherine Staines remanded Puska in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on January 26.

       Defence solicitor Eoin Lysaght made an application for legal aid and for the services of an interpreter.

       A second man, arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, has been released without charge.

       Ashling's body was found on the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore on January 12.

       Vigils have been held across Ireland and the world to remember talented musician and to call for a change in tackling gender-based violence.

       Her funeral was held in Tullamore, where the priest said her family had been robbed of their "most precious gift".
