KOTA KINABALU: The two independent power producers (IPPs) that were shut down temporarily over the past week are now back on grid.

This allows for power supply to be resumed with an additional 155MW of electricity, said Sabah and Labuan Grid System Operator Adrian Mosigil.

He said Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd resumed operations on Friday (Jan 19) restoring a total of 95MW of power, and Ranhill Powertron ll Sdn Bhd resumed operations on Thursday (Jan 18).

With the resumption of operations from these two IPPs, the state power reserves are no longer at a critical level, he said.

Mosigil thanked both IPPs for speeding up repair and maintenance works and for ensuring as little disruptions or load shedding as possible during this period.

“SESB and IPPs in Sabah will continue to work hard to ensure that the power supply remains stable and consistent for consumers,” he said.

He said SESB would also make electricity supply announcements every weekday (Monday to Friday) so that customers can be prepared if there is load shedding or any disruptions expected.

On related matters, Mosigil said repair works on a malfunctioning power plant at Serudong Power Sdn Bhd are expected to be completed on March 1.

“When repair works on the crankcase covers, which failed on April 27 last year, are complete, it will supply 11MW of power to the Sabah grid system,” he said.
