KOTA KINABALU: The power rationing in Sabah and Labuan is unlikely to happen on Monday (Jan 22), says Sabah Electricity (SESB).

       Its State Grid System Operator (GSO) managing director Adrian Mosigil said they were on alert, anticipating there could be an over-demand for power.

       He said the overall electricity supply is estimated to be around 1,128MW, adding that the current power generation includes 18.3MW of solar energy supplied by independent power producer Tadau Energy.

       It has the capacity to produce 50MW of power, depending on the weather and solar energy, he added.

       “The peak hour today is expected to be around 2.30pm, with a maximum demand expected to reach 1,027MW. SESB still has a reserve margin of 101MW in case of an emergency. So, power rationing is not expected to take place," Mosigil said.

       He said the peak hour on Sunday (Jan 21) was at 7.30pm when the maximum demand hit 957MW, with a reserved margin of 156.79MW unutilised.

       On Jan 17, GSO - a department of SESB tasked to handle Sabah's grid system - said the company is unable to operate at full capacity due to repair works and safety inspection.
