KOTA KINABALU: A 68-year-old man who was reported missing several days ago, is believed to have been murdered and his remains set alight.
This comes after the discovery of ashes and burnt bones believed to be his remains at a forest area in Kg Kipaliu Ranau, on Friday (April 19).
Ranau police chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said a suspect, 40s, believed to be the victim’s nephew, was subsequently nabbed.
He said according to the report lodged by the victim’s relative at 9.43pm Friday (April 18), he had stumbled upon the remains which he believed to be human remains.
"This relative has reason to believe that the bones belonged to the uncle who went missing on April 16," he said in a statement.
"At around 10am Friday (April 19), we nabbed a suspect, who is also believed to be the victim’s nephew to facilitate probes for murder," DSP Simiun said, adding that the suspect was in his late 40s.
He urged for the public to refrain from making speculations and to allow cops to conduct their investigations.
