KUALA LUMPUR: A post-mortem examination on the detainee who suffered a seizure and died at the Kajang police station lock-up did not reveal any injuries or bruises on the deceased, says Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad.

He said the victim's cause of death had not been ascertained.

"We have taken samples to be analysed and tested in finding the cause of death.

"The 45-year-old detainee also tested negative for Covid-19," he said in a statement on Friday (April 15).

He said the case has been classified as sudden death.

"We will continue to investigate the matter before handing the findings to the coroner," he said.

The detainee, who was being held at Kajang police station's lock-up, died after suffering a seizure on Wednesday (April 13).

He was en route to a nearby hospital for treatment when he died.

The detainee had been charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on Tuesday (April 12) and he pleaded not guilty.

As he was not granted bail, he was temporarily placed at Kajang police station's lock-up before being transferred to the Beranang satellite prison.
