TOKYO -- A man who allegedly sprayed black paint on a sign of the Justice Ministry in the Japanese capital has been arrested, police said.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)'s Marunouchi Police Station, the man, a 45-year-old construction worker with no fixed address, was arrested Nov. 15 on suspicion of damaging property. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations, telling police, "I was angry at how Japan is now."
The man is specifically accused of spraying black oil paint on a sign of the Justice Ministry and the wall near the entrance to Central Government Building No. 6 in the Kasumigaseki district of Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward at around 4 p.m. on Oct. 10.
According to the Marunouchi Police Station, the suspect told investigators, "When I was moving out of an apartment in October, I went to obtain my residence certificate and found that my address had been transferred without notice. I thought the Justice Ministry holds jurisdiction over the matter."
The man was indicted by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office on Dec. 3 for damaging property.
