Sam McAlister discusses Prince Andrew on Jeremy Vine
Jeremy Vine reacted to a YouGov poll that put the Duke of York at the bottom with only 6 per cent saying they feel favourable towards him.
The Channel 5 presenter was joined on his self-titled programme today (April 10) by Scoop author Sam McAllister as the pair discussed the Netflix drama.
The new movie tells the story of the infamous Newsnight interview that, in 2019, saw Prince Andrew attempt to distance himself from convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Jeremy, 58, hit out at the royal over a particular scene in a brutal two-word takedown which the broadcaster described as "incredibly crass".
He quizzed: "My only other question is whether it's true…. Sam and Emily sit down with Andrew to talk about doing the interview. And at the end, he makes this appalling joke where he says, 'I was close to friends with Jimmy Savile.' Did he say that?"

Sam replied: "It’s err.. that's artistic license."
Jeremy said: "Okay. I did think that was incredibly crass."
Details of Jimmy Savile's sexual abuse allegations were only exposed after he died in late 2012.
Prince Andrew had dealings with Savile in the past, namely featuring on Jim’ll Fix It in 1994 after hosting one of the contestants on the HMS Cottesmore.
However, despite that, it appears that they had very few interactions and that the line in the Netflix drama “I don’t know why everyone’s so upset about my friendship with Epstein – I knew Jimmy Savile so much better,” was written more as a joke in a bid to convey Andrew's lack of understanding at the severity of the situation.

Jeremy suggested the "tragedy" of Scoop from Andrew's point of view was that the show writers were "definitely fair with him".
Sam agreed suggesting the royal was pleased following the Newsnight interview not realising the storm that was brewing, saying Andrew suffers what she calls "royal delusion".
Scoop is available to stream on Netflix now. The film is based on a memoir by Sam, the former Newsnight producer who booked the interview with Prince Andrew.

A rival project about Prince Andrew’s Newsnight interview is being made by Prime Video, which has the backing of Emily Maitlis, who conducted the interview. Instead of Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson, it will be Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson playing the lead roles.
