Brother Robin, 53, said married Grant was due to fly home the next day, having been working for a non-government organisation.
It is feared the dad of four, from Portland in Dorset, is being held in one of Kabul’s notorious prisons.
Robin, from Nuthall, Notts, said: “It was the biggest shock. I’ve been trying to find out as much as I can to try to help get him back. The whole family just wants him to be OK.
“His wife must be in pieces and our dad is absolutely flattened — he doesn’t know what to do.
"He is 75 and not well. I’m trying to keep him calm. I’m scared it’s too late. Grant may be dead. He was there to help.”
The Taliban took over running Afghanistan shortly after storming the capital Kabul in August amid the withdrawal of western troops after 20 years of bloody conflict.
But now millions in the country are facing starvation with the US freezing more than £8billion in aid.
