PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied allegations that he had left out the resolutions made in Umno's supreme council meeting on Wednesday (July 7) night from his media statement.

He claimed that the decision made by the party’s supreme council was for the betterment of the people and the nation.

“All decisions are made constitutionally, with intent and wisdom, based on the welfare of the people and the nation.

“Therefore the propaganda and perception that the Umno president makes his own decisions on behalf of the party is not true,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (July 8).

Ahmad Zahid said that Umno always acted decisively when it came to defending the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers.

“It is proven that Umno listens to the conscience of the grassroots and fulfilled their mandate at the 2020 Umno General Assembly.

“It is clear that Umno will continue to hold on to and fight for the principle of parliamentary democracy.

"Umno will continue to be with the people regardless of the challenge or obstacle. For the love of Malaysia,” he said.

Ketereh MP and Umno division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that he was informed by Umno supreme council members after the meeting last night that the statement by Ahmad Zahid did not provide the whole picture of the decisions made by the council.

He said that the supreme council made a decision to allow all Umno MPs to vote as they wished during any voting session for any motion in Parliament sittings.

Ahmad Zahid had announced that the party would withdraw its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after a virtual supreme council meeting on Wednesday night that stretched till the early hours of Thursday.

Ahmad Zahid said the withdrawal of support came because Muhyiddin had not fulfilled seven requirements outlined by Umno when the government was sworn in on March 11 last year.
