PONTIAN: PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional is calling for a redelineation of electoral boundaries as there are many seats in the state with more than 100,000 voters, says Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

The Mentri Besar said Barisan was aiming for a two-thirds majority of seats in the state assembly so they were able to carry out political reforms.

"In areas like Kota Iskandar and Permas, there are more than 100,000 voters.

"In Benut, we have 28,000 voters while Pulai Sebatang has 46,000 voters. I pity the elected representatives in these areas," he said at an event in the Benut constituency on Wednesday (March 9).

Among the seats with a large electorate were Kota Iskandar with 116,846 voters, Puteri Wangsa (112,865), Tiram (105,769), Perling (101,339), Permas (103,649) and Skudai (102,893).

On young voters casting their ballots for the first time, Hasni said Barisan and Umno had constantly been engaging the youth.

"We have many programmes for youth and have our own Dewan Muda Johor.

"This is similar to the state assembly and is a good avenue for the young to practice their debating skills," he said, adding that they also have Southern Volunteers, which attracts many young people.
